Welcome
Dear Student,
If you’re the type of person who wants to realize your full potential in life, then you’re planning to continue your education at a university. Are you wondering where you fit in, or what your major will be? Are you excited about the life sciences? Would you enjoy using biological skills and knowledge in a hands-on field of study? If so, then a major in Agricultural Biology may be right for you.
Our department is small and personable with 15 professors on hand to become your mentors and guides while at the university. We take the time to recognize each student as an individual. We work hard to involve our students in the profession by providing hands-on experience in summer jobs, internships, and research projects. We have high academic standards, but provide support through a one-to-one relationship with faculty. Our students enjoy a friendly atmosphere for study and work.
Faculty members are committed to helping students find internships and work experiences to support career development. We encourage our students to enter regional and national science competitions, to accept responsibilities in research projects, and to participate in our departmental student club. After completing the degree, 90 to 95 percent of our graduates have found professional, career-track jobs in Agricultural Biology with private industry, government, and research institutions.
Our faculty's reward is helping you to succeed, not only academically, but personally as well. Students such as yourself bring cultural richness and diversity to our college providing us with insight into New Mexico's past, present, and future.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me, or any other member of the faculty in the Department of Entomology, Plant Pathology, and Weed Science.
Sincerely,
David C. Thompson
EPPWS Department Chair
