Linnaean Team
The Linnaean Team is a group of students (either undergrad and/or graduate) that join together with all their knowledge of entomology in an attempt to beat other groups of students from different universities. Teams compete on a regional level during the Southwestern Branch meeting of the Entomological Society of America (ESA) and Branch winners go on to compete against each other at the National ESA meeting at the end of the year. The NMSU Team does quite well in competition, consistently ranking in the top two over the last several years in regional competition, and among the top at the National level.
Participation in the Linnaean Games is a great way to learn and understand the many facets of entomology. All that is required is an interest in insects, spiders, etc. and a competitive spirit. Each competition match is a series of 16 questions related to any aspect of entomology: taxonomy, pest management, physiology, behavior and apiculture, biological control, ecology, history, etc. Linnaean Team Members meet once or twice a week during the semester to practice. Involvement in the NMSU Linnaean Team offers more than a broad understanding of the science of Entomology. The games can earn you wider recognition and a good reputation in the field –which can be a big help when going on to grad school. You could meet a future boss or future co-worker, network, or just make new friends with similar interests. Maybe best of all, it's a great way to get to know more of the students, faculty, and staff in the EPPWS Department.
You may contact coach Dr. Scott Bundy by e-mail if you are interested in joining the Linnaean Team.
